FINDING THE SOLUTION

In my last blog I talked about how the fashion industry is causing harm and the harmful effects of fast fashion . We have acknowledged the problem , but knowing what the problem is ; it is not enough . Let's now look forward to how can we solve this problem , what all can be done to save the world and at the same time keep up with the fashion .

The first step towards finding the solution should be getting to know more, because I believe there's this huge chunk of people who don't even know about that fashion can lead to such drastic effects . Even for me this was new and was an eye opener .

In today's time we are already pretty late to come to this but still a lot can be done .

WAYS TO BREAK FAST FASHION -

  1.  Buy less wear more
  2. Focus on quality rather than quantity
  3. Natural fibers over manmade fibers
  4. waterless coloring techniques
  5. Rent or borrow clothes
  6. Reuse , reduce and recycle

WHAT ARE NATURAL FIBERS -

‘Natural fiber’ is a term used to refer to the fibers that are obtained from (or are produced by) animals and plants. These fibers have a wide range of applications in the manufacture of composite materials. Paper and felt (a type of textile material) can be prepared by matting different layers of natural fibers into sheets.

SOME COMPANIES WHO WORK WITH SUSTAINABLE FASHION -

1.EATH POLO BY RALPH LAUREN- In recognition of earth day , the storied American fashion house has developed a new iteration of it's iconic polo shirt called The Earth Polo . Each of the shirts is made polyester , spun from recycled plastic bottles and dyed with a process that uses 0 water  . But the shirts aren't a one time sustainability stunt , they are also mark the company's commitment to continue upcycling plastic well into the future .

3.ECOALF-This Spanish brand was founded on the principles of recycling. The intent to create a truly sustainable fashion brand started at the source and as a result of limited choices in the market place for 100 percent recycled material . Discarded fishing nets, post consumer plastic bottles , worn-out tires , post-industrial cotton and even used coffee grinds became their outerwear, swimsuits, sneakers and accessories .

4.BODIOS-It is a Mongolian brand of luxury knitwear made from 100% natural fibers. The fashion garments of BODIO'S are made of cashmere , baby camel wool and yak down. From buying raw material from herders through producing the finished product all is done by this company , therefore the quality is fully under control. Bodio's is recognized and honors by local and international institutions and by nomadic herders themselves for giving back efforts to improve health and welfare of herders and animals.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION IS THE WAY TO GO - Sustainable fashion helps us target our wasteful behaviour and our non-appreciative attitude all at once. It is one of those effective practices that hold the power to utterly transform the face of any situation. By making the shift to sustainable clothing, we can significantly lower our impact and produce less waste that is usually a gigantic component of the fashion industry.

  1. It provides us with an alternative to fast fashion
  2. Hemp is great for the skin
  3. Help us detox our lives
  4. It generates less waste and takes care of the environment
  5. Help us value to our wardrobe

To conclude it all , I would like put in my thought that the only way in which saving the environment is that we as a human start thinking about things , we start taking such topics seriously . Just these few brands working towards the betterment of the planet is not enough, we are now in a phase that as a consumer or as a producer it has become our responsibility to strive to make things better .

  1. I never thought that the solutions to this problem could be so easy. If we as an individual contribute our bit and adopt these solutions, fashion industry can be taken to a next level. Most of the brands you mention here were very new to me. Their ideology was inspiring.

  5. Truly said, most of the times we buy new clothes just for the sake of society. We buy new, to avoid the wrong judgements made by the society. We even buy to match the standards of other people.
But we need to shift our focus point from the society to the environment we live in. We should start thinking of the environment and try to change people's mindset and make them aware of the fast fashion ill effects.
